Everything you need to know about hyaluronic acid
A sugar molecule found naturally within our skin, hyaluronic acid - or hyaluronan and HA - is a humectant that holds up to thousand times its body weight in water, meaning it quite literally binds to water, boosting your skin’s moisture levels. When used properly, the benefits of hyaluronic acid are pretty bloody impressive. I’m talking reduced fine lines, improved moisture and plumper, bouncier, dewier skin. It also helps to keep that all important skin barrier intact. Essentially everything we want from a skincare ingredient right?
Despite being naturally found in our skin, like most of the good things in life, aka collagen, it depletes as we get older which is why you might start to notice your skin becoming more dehydrated (read, dull) as we age. One of the best ways to counteract this is using a product which contains, you guessed it, hyaluronic acid. Mega Mist, our hyaluronic acid facial spray might be the one for you. Hydrating, soothing & gently toning, Mega Mist is formulated with hero ingredients like hyaluronic acid, aloe vera & floral waters. Super versatile, Mega Mist works well in place of a toner, after cleansing and before moisturising and is amazing at reviving tired skin that looks a little dull after staring at a screen all day and gives makeup a gorge dewy finish.
Unlike other acids, HA is suitable for pretty much everyone, even sensitive skin. It’s non-irritating and isn’t harsh so won’t trigger skin conditions such as acne or rosacea. That being said, you can have too much of a good thing and you only need it to be present in one of the products in your routine. Some people find that overloading with too much hyaluronic acid can do the exact opposite of what they’re intending. Similarly, there are ways to use it to ensure that you properly reap its benefits. As it’s a humectant, it’s optimal to apply anything with hyaluronic acid onto damp skin, to ensure that it draws moisture from the water and not your skin. Think of your skin like a sponge, when it’s damp, it’s gonna absorb more moisture than if it was dry and allows for your products to soak easily into the skin rather than just sitting on top. AM and PM, when your skin is still a little damp from cleanser, spritz Mega Mist liberally all over your face & neck before sealing in all of the moisture with an occlusive like Day Defence, Bakuchiol Booster or Night Nutrition.
Stay hydrated, kids. Your skin will thank you.
