Skincare School: Acids
How do I use skincare acids on my face? Which acids are good for my skin? And which products can I find them in?
Welcome to homeschooling for adults; science class starts now!
AHAs:
Alpha hydroxy acids are generally known as the ‘lighter weight’ acids since they have a larger molecule size and work mostly on the upper layers of your skin. They slough away dead skin cells and traces of impurities to reveal glowing, healthy skin beneath.
We’ve formulated our Acid Gold resurfacing face mask with four powerhouse acids (lactic, glycolic, malic and tartaric), pumpkin and papaya enzymes, fruit extracts and some majorly moisturising ingredients to create the perfect multitasking product to brighten and replenish. The addition of sea buckthorn oil and glycerin helps to minimise any irritation that AHAs can cause for more sensitive skins.
Best for dry, dull and blemish-prone skin. Leave on 5-15 minutes and use up to 2-3 times a week. If your skin is super dry or sensitive, start by using just once a week for 5 minutes and build up your tolerance.
HYALURONIC:
Although it’s called acid, this molecule enriches the skin by pulling over 1000x its weight in water to the epidermal layer, as opposed to the refining acids in the AHA/BHA category. Mega Mist is packed full of this incredibly hydrating ingredient, and a regular dosing will help your skin to maintain its plump and dewy appearance. Hyaluronic acid is a powerful hydrator but can actually cause dehydration by drawing moisture out from within the deeper layers of your skin. To avoid this, always apply to damp or wet skin and follow up a facial oil or moisturiser to lock in hydration. Mega Mist has been formulated with this in mind, and contains floral waters for hyaluronic acid to draw into the skin.
Great for all skin types, but particularly beneficial for dehydrated, dull skin. Use after cleansing and throughout the day to refresh skin.
BHAs:
This acid group tends to be more useful for clearing congested pores and deeply refining the skin. The powerful exfoliative action can be an effective tool for battling both active blemishes, blackheads and some hyperpigmentation. The natural form of salicylic acid in Crystal Clear can help minimise enlarged pores, diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and improve skin’s firmness, tone, and overall texture. Best of all, it’s formulated to be gentle enough for everyday use!
Made for oily, blemish-prone, congested or normal skin. Best used daily as part of an evening routine, after removing makeup.
