Vitamins. They might have seemed overrated to us as kids whilst being urged (or forced) to eat fruit and vegetables. However, now that we are older and wiser, we should appreciate the benefits of vitamins. Vitamins are nutrients your body needs in small amounts to work properly and stay healthy, playing important roles in reactions that keep our body functioning.
Most people should get all the nutrients they need by having a varied and balanced diet, although some people may need to take extra supplements.
Skin is our largest organ and is our body's first line of defence. Vitamins are important in skincare as they support healthy barrier function and act as co factors in chemical reactions within our skin. In this post I’m going to take you through the benefits of some key vitamins and skincare and tell you about the benefits of each:
- A: Vitamin A is arguably the best vitamin in skincare as it increases cell turnover, regenerating skin. Vitamin A is the active ingredient in retinoids (retinol, retinoic acid, retinaldehyde etc) which are famous for their regenerative properties but can come with irritation and discomfort.
