Easy Vegan Skincare Swaps
This Veganuary we're sharing some simple beauty swaps to make your routine more plant-based. At BYBI, we believe in the power of natural ingredients with potent superfood actives to access the vitamins and nutrients that are essential for your skin’s health. Our products and ingredients get results without costing us the planet. Here are our favourite easy vegan switches to make in your routine to keep your skin and our planet happy and healthy.
Beeswax > Fruit wax
One very common type of wax in cosmetics is Beeswax, which is not vegan due to it being extracted from honeycombs in bee hives. A great plant-based option to this is fruit wax, which you can find in our Babe Balm.
The vegan fruit wax in Babe Balm helps soften chapped, rough areas of skin and form a protective barrier to lock in moisture. It’s perfect for keeping lips, cuticles and hands soft all year round.
Retinol > Bakuchiol
Some Retinols are derived from animals but our plant-based alternative, Bakuchiol, is derived from the seeds of the Psoralea corylifolia plant.
Bakuchiol regenerates and replenishes the skin by stimulating collagen production to plump, firm, and smooth fine lines. It’s also non-irritating, so it’s safe to use on sensitive skin, and if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding. Find it in Bakuchiol Booster, our hero in a little purple bottle. Apply it directly to the skin after cleansing, or add a couple of drops to your fave serum or moisturiser.
Squalene > Squalane
Squalene is used to help protect the skin barrier, however, it’s derived from sharks making it not vegan. Our plant-based alternative, Squalane, is made from olives and is the perfect potent ingredient to nourish and hydrate dry or damaged skin.
You can find squalane in a few of our products, such as Strawberry Booster, Bakuchiol Booster, Eye Plump and one of our heroes Supercharge Serum. The serum is packed with antioxidant-rich botanicals, to give skin a smooth, healthy feel, reduce signs of scarring or pigmentation and increase skin cell turnover.
Collagen > Collagen building ingredients such as Vitamin C
Collagen found in skincare and supplements often comes from animal sources, such as beef or fish. Instead, we prefer to use collagen building ingredients, such as Vitamin C. This boosts your skin’s regeneration process, giving it a smooth, bouncy feel.
Our C-Caf cream has a double vitamin C formula, from kakadu plum and ascorbyl glucoside. Together, these ingredients brighten dull skin and improve the look of hyperpigmentation, scars and uneven skin tone.
Lanolin > Shea Butter
Lanolin is another common beauty ingredient that derives from animals like sheep. We like to use plant-based alternatives, such as Shea Butter, which is a seed fat that comes from the shea tree.
This can be found in our Night Nutrition cream that is packed with antioxidants, essential fatty acids, vitamins and ceramides to repair, renew and strengthen the skin. It helps boost your skin’s moisture for a healthy, glowing complexion.
