How to strip it back to basics when your skin is freaking out
Welcome to resetting your skin 101. If you think (or you really know) you've overdone it with your skincare, then you're in the right place.
What do we mean by overdoing it?
If your skin has become very irritated out of nowhere, you probably have sensitized skin. Sensitized skin refers to skin that has become irritated and inflamed as a result of skin barrier damage. This often occurs from over-exfoliation, being OTT with your routine (hello 12 step routines) and using actives that are not appropriate for your concerns. This can not only lead to irritation, but flare ups and breakouts too.
If this sounds familiar, then go on a skincare detox for 1-2 weeks. Cut back your routine to just a simple cleanser, a moisturiser and a SPF. Slowly begin to reintroduce actives into your routine one at a time and avoid using/overusing the products that put you into that position.
Gently cleanse (twice)
Effectively removing makeup and cleansing pores is the first step to resetting breakout-prone skin.
Gently cleanse and remove dirt with Milk Melt, a creamy, dreamy cleanser that uses the power of oats, probiotic coconut yoghurt and aloe to gently melt away dirt and grime, whilst also softening, soothing and keeping your skin’s delicate microbiome happy. Ideal for those feeling sensitive.
For clearer skin, cleanse deep into pores with the help of salicylic acid in Crystal Clear. Our gel cleanser also contains inulin, a prebiotic included to look after the skin's microbiome after cleansing, preventing dryness and breakouts. Perfect for those feeling oily or congested.
Pick a moisturiser
Choose a targeted facial oil or moisturiser to help rebuild your skin barrier whilst meeting your skin needs.
- For an intense hit of moisture, use Strawberry Booster in the AM for soft skin. It's rich in ellagic acid and incredibly nourishing. Apply directly to skin or add a few drops into your moisturiser for a dewy boost.
- Use Bakuchiol Booster in the PM for smoother, bouncier, glowier skin. It's a natural and vegan alternative to retinol (vitamin A) that helps boost collagen, improve skin texture and the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
- Hydrate and brighten with C-Caf Cream. C-Caf Cream is a vitamin C and caffeine moisturiser for everyday use. Lightweight and nourishing, it brightens and softens skin whilst reducing morning puffiness.
Protect
Use SPF daily to protect skin from sun damage and help prevent premature ageing.
Applying an SPF such as Day Defence every morning, is key to healthy, balanced skin. It's a light, non-greasy moisturiser made with aloe, buriti and shea butter that protects skin from environmental stressors while hydrating the skin.
UV radiation from the sun is the main cause of skin damage, Day Defence provides broad spectrum protection from both UVA and UVB rays, helping prevent premature ageing and burning. If out in direct sunlight, reapply every two hours for full SPF 30 protection.
